The Mercedes Benz 300D
The Mercedes Benz 300D was first introduced by Mercedes Benz back in 1975 with a naturally aspirated (non turbo) 5 cylinder 3.0
liter engine producing about 90 horsepower. Mercedes introduced a turbo diesel 5 cylinder 3.0 liter engine in 1982 which produced around 120 horsepower. The engine increased the cars
performance considerably while still maintaining the efficiency and reliability of the non turbo version. The cars were produced up until 1985 and it is estimated that some 70% of the cars are still on the road today.
The MB 300D
As I mentioned earlier, I purchased my MB300 on Ebay from a guy in my area. I guess this guy "flips" these cars for a profit. He was running the one I bought on veggie oil, so I asked him
what all he was doing. He told me he was using Diesel Secret. I already knew about Diesel Secret but had dismissed it as snake oil based on all the negative
comments from the Biodiesel forums and the like. The guy told me he had been using it for a couple of years on some other MB 300s and that it was good stuff. The other alternatives would be to make my own biodiesel, or to
get a "conversion" kit which would warm the veggie oil to allow it to flow easier through the fuel lines. As it turns out, Diesel Secret does the same thing. They just
give you the formula to thinning the veggie oil down. So he pretty much sold me on the stuff so the only thing that was left was to source the veggie oil. So back the car, the guy was generous
enough to fill up the car with a batch of veggie oil he had made and off I went. The car actually runs pretty good for being over 20 years old. It's pretty much built like a tank. It has an all
leather interior, power windows and locks. In short it has all the nice amenities one would want so I am pretty satisfied with the car. . Here is a shot of the interior.
How does it Run?
As of this writing, I have had the car for a little while know and are running it exclusively on the Diesel Secret concauction. I have to say that the car
runs great. While I was sourcing the oil, I had to put diesel in it as I had run out of the veggie oil the car was purchased with. I have to say that there is no noticable difference
in the way it drives. Except for the french fry exaust fumes. Acutally, mine smells like Mexican food since the oil coming from a Mexican restaurant, just kidding..So again, all in all I am very satisfied with the purchase and the Diesel Secret mix.
I will have to come back and update the site once winter comes along. I am curious to see how this fuel mixture will do.
