Compatible Cars
By far, the most compatible cars for straight veggie oil are the old Mercedes 300s which were produced up until 1985. They estimate that over 70% of them are still on the road so there are plenty out there to be had, though they are increasing in price due to their veggie oil compatibility. Mercedes continued to make diesel cars past 1985 but they will probably be more expensive. Diesel Secret secret says their recipe and additive will work on any diesel engine. I have not had any direct experience with later model cars so cannot validate this claim. I suspect it would work fine provided your veggie oil be thinned further with Diesel/Kerosene. The reason for this is that the earlier car's engine used a mechanical means of fuel injection. The later model cars have more sophisticated electronic driven injectors and engine management systems which would probably be more prone to clogging. The other option would be to put in a "conversion" system which basically just heats the veggie oil prior to running the car on it. Problem with this is that it adds to you cost thus taking much longer to pay for itself in terms of savings. About the only other car option would be older VW diesel models but I do not know enough about these cars to say how well they would perform. From my experience, browsing through Ebay, there aren't a whole lot of them available. Bottom line is, the older the car the better. One thing I would NOT do, is put veggie oil in your brand new VW TDI. As for trucks, well, there are plenty diesel trucks out there. The problem with them as I see it, is that they are gas guzzlers and will burn the veggie oil quicker and you will need ALOT more to sustain it. So you would just have to find more restaurants and spend alot more time mixing the stuff. I suppose if you own a business it would be a great cost savings idea especially if you already have a diesel truck. However, if you just need something to go to and from work then stick to the models mentioned above and forget about trucks.
